Nortina Simmons, inspired by her songwriting, guitar-playing father, wrote her first love “poem” at the tender age of three, a song title “Oh, Desire.” Since then, she has immersed herself in the hopeless pages of romance fiction and poetry. However, her writing isn’t all delicate butterflies and sugar-covered flowers like the fairytale love stories we grew up on. Love in the real word is a little more raw, a little more complex. Through her writing, she explores the characteristics of love that aren’t as sweet, that are a little more “cursed,” but that are craved all the same.
Nortina has stories and poems published in Agave Magazine, FishFood Magazine, Ceases, Cows, Meat for Tea: The Valley Review, fēlan, Twisted Vine Literary Arts Journal, and Minerva Rising.
