Sunday Morning Word: Peculiar People

“No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.”
1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)

Sometimes when we read the Bible, we wonder how people can have such faith when so many things were going against them. Job when he lost everything. Abraham when he was commanded to sacrifice his son Isaac. The poor widow who offered all that she had. How could they trust that God would bring them out of their suffering?

Sometimes we think that times are different. The problems we face today cannot compare with what happened in the Bible. How can we keep to what the Bible teaches us in this era? What we don’t realize is that so many things talked about in the Bible can be applied to our world today. When you turn on the news, you can quickly see that we are living in the end days. Christians are being persecuted. People are living in open rebellion. There wars and famine. False teachers and prophets are leading people astray. We read about all of this in the Bible and it is happening today! Now is the time to strengthen our faith!

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”

I know it’s hard, and we often have questions, and that’s OK. But always stay true to your faith and remember that God will never give you more than you can handle, and will always provide you with a way out (1 Corinthians 10:13; Genesis 22:14).
