Sunday Morning Word: On That Cross

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished”
Romans 3:23-25(NIV)

Alex Hurt’s “On That Cross” is a powerful poem. It reminds us where we could have been if Jesus had not died on the cross. The Bible says the wage of sin is death (Romans 6:23). In the Old Testament, our sins were atoned through the sacrifice of animals; in the New Testament, Jesus is that Lamb. Jesus Christ, the only man to live on this earth free from sin, was able to die on the cross and wash us clean from all transgressions through his blood. Now, that is the definition of love, if you ask me. For those of you who think God is a vengeful and wrathful God, remember that cross, and remember what all he’s done to save you.
